In this work, the main ideas involved in the design of overlapping and multi-overlapping controllers via the Inclusion Principle are discussed and illustrated in the context of the Structural Vibration Control of tall buildings under seismic excitation. A detailed theoretical background on the Inclusion Principle and the design of overlapping controllers is provided. Overlapping and multi-overlapping LQR controllers are designed for a simplied five-story building model. Numerical simulations are conducted to asses the performance of the proposed semi-decentralized controllers with positive results.

Delay-dependent H-infinity control for networked control systems with large delays
Wang, Yilin; Karimi, Hamid Reza; Xiang, Zhengrong (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2013)We consider the problems of robust stability and H-infinity control for a class of networked control systems with long-time delays. Firstly, a nonlinear discrete time model with mode-dependent time delays is proposed by ... -
Recent advances in static output-feedback controller design with applications to vibration control of large structures
Palacios-Quiñonero, Francisco; Rubió-Massegú, Josep; Rossell, Josep M.; Karimi, Hamid Reza (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2014)In this paper, we present a novel two-step strategy for static output-feedback controller design. In the first step, an optimal state-feedback controller is obtained by means of a linear matrix inequality (LMI) formulation. ... -
Research of smart car's speed control based on the internal model control
Yu, Han; Karimi, Hamid Reza; Zhu, Xuemei (Journal article; Peer reviewed, 2014)Based on analyzing principle about the smart car's speed control system, the system mathematical model is built. Considering the control optimization, a novel control scheme is proposed based on internal model control, and ...
