Sammendrag
The aim of this study is to contribute to understanding of the intersection of sustainability and Management Control Systems (MCS). MCS is everything managers do to help ensure that their organization’s strategies and plans are carried out. Because of its heavy reliance on fuel-powered vehicles, the logistics industry accounts for over a third of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
By undertaking a comprehensive and qualitative in-depth analysis of Post- Nord – one of the leading logistics players in Northern Europe, the study aims at understanding how environmentally sustainable initiatives and MCS are interrelated in logistics. The primary data was collected from five inter- views with key personnel in PostNord. The findings reveal a nuanced inter- play between green initiatives and MCS. Despite the company’s ambitious sustainability efforts, the findings suggest that the integration of environ- mentally sustainable initiatives will improve if the level of knowledge and intrinsic motivation of all employees and other stakeholders is enhanced.
