Master's thesis in Global Development and Planning (UT505)en_US
This master's thesis will shed light on why conflict arises in the development of wind power in Norway, and how ideals for renewable energy meet local opposition. In our time as research assistants at WINDPLAN, the assignment was to review key documents to categorize various conflict areas that arise in the development of respective wind power plants. It became clear that definitions of the project, perspectives on the understanding of the conflict and procedural challenges were central to the conflict picture. The purpose of the master's thesis is to see the conflict from new perspectives, where the definition “the relative megaproject” provides an understanding of the wind power plant's complexity, impact, and lifetime. Wind power plants are located in small local communities, and there is a clear different level of knowledge and distribution of power between wind power actors and local actors-and locals. We see this as “one-timers" and "recurring" to provide a further understanding of how the planning process affects the level of social acceptance.en_US
