Modeling is a mathematical skill that connects mathematics to the real world. Mathematical modeling has been a part of the new curriculum, LK20. Modeling will therefore get an extra attention in the teaching the mathematical competence of modeling. This is challenging for both teachers and students, and one of the reasons that it has not been prioritized in teaching mathematics. To teach modeling it requires good tasks to use in the classroom that challenge students on all level. In this study I investigated teaching modeling in the classroom with the research question: (1) How to model task that students can feel relevant and meaningful? (2) How did the modeling taskwork in teaching? Realistic mathematics education (RME) is a teaching where we want students to reinvent mathematics trough a realistic situation. In this study, will modeling cycles be a central part, and 7-step modeling cycle of Blum and Leiβ (2007) and the 4-step model will also be used in the analyses. During the analyze of the data material I analyzed the interviews and organized them into important topics. The analyzes show what is needed to create a task that students feel is relevant and it also contain the analyzes of the observation the students when they worked with modeling task I designed.
