dc.description.abstractIn this master’s thesis,Itry to identify factors thataffect the “exam behaviour”of Norwegian students. “Exam behaviour”isin this thesis defined as the decisive behaviourthat that determines whetherstudents attenddeferredexams. I’ve analysedthe topic by examiningstatistical dataabout examsinintroductory courses taught inthe bachelor’s program in Business Administration at Handelshøyskolen UiA for the period2010 –2018,and NTNU Handelshøyskolen in Trondheim for the period2016 –2018.The hypotheses for this thesis are based on theories from human capital theory, motivational psychology,the legal framework whichregulates institutions of higher education in Norway, and thelocal exam regulations at UiA and NTNU. From this, I’ve also identified the factors I believe will affect the student’s “exam behavior”. In my analysis, I usedata which has been gathered by the universities andstored in the national administrative system for Norwegian institutions of highereducation, called FS. I’ve used the data to calculate different variables which represent and measure the effect of the different factors. The results show thatnot passing the exam, not being able to attend the exam due to sickness, average grade on the exam, assessment method, are all factors that affect student’s “exam behavior”. Some of the findings in this paper are however believed to be specific for thegiven institution, and not generalizable.nb_NO
