dc.description.abstractIn the preliminary project it was stated that Strauman 3 had been deteriorated so significantly that replacement isnecessary. The damage havebeen reported as critical for abouttwentyyears.Theplatebridge is located in Vesterålen and spans 5.9 meters with two lanes. The accumulated damage is a result ofaninsufficient concrete cover to withstand theexposure conditions. This project concerns the designof different bridge proposals that may begood solutionsfor the replacement of Strauman 3. In this process, several proposals are sketched. Among these,both traditional and innovative solutionsare presented. Once all the suggestions have been outlined, they will go through a selection process. The solutions that show the highest potential is later designed in detail according to relevant standards. Selection is done by describingpros and conswhich appear through engineering judgement and discussion. The main focus of this report is the structural engineering aspects with each bridge proposal. Nevertheless, wewill also focus on the environmental factors associated with global warming potential (GWP), more specifically, CO2-­‐equivalents. These calculations will mainly be based on European Product Decleration (EPD), in addition to assumptions and simplifications whennecessary.The research question of this report is; "Which bridge solution is most preferablefor the replacement ofStrauman 3 when it is evaluated against emissions of CO2-­‐equivalents and price?".The results show that it is the reinforced B45 bridge that leads tothe lowest amount of CO2emissions while also beingpreferable economically. The cement are the greatest attributer in price and environmental impact. Therefore, the preferable choicefor the replacement ofStrauman 3 isbe the option that contains the least amount of cement.nb_NO
