Sammendrag
Onboarding, the process of integrating new employees into an organization, is crucial for increasing employee engagement and performance, reducing turnover, and ensuring long-term organizational success. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to examine how Norwegian universities measure the impact of their onboarding processes, focusing on three main areas: employee performance, employee engagement, and employee retention. The study uses a qualitative research design, utilizing semi-structured interviews with HR-employees and department heads from various Norwegian universities and thematic analysis to examine the results. The findings show that Norwegian universities have effective and structured onboarding programs, and use performance and engagement reviews, evaluations, and surveys, as well as exit interviews to measure their impact. However, variations in implementation of these methods and the absence of standardized metrics across different roles highlight the complexity of evaluating onboarding impact. The study concludes with recommendations for Norwegian universities to implement more standardized and consistent measurement methods to ensure thorough assessment and continuous improvement and impact of their onboarding processes.
