dc.description.abstract | Batteries will play a vital role in the global transition towards renewable energy. However,
the battery supply chain is exposed to different sustainable risks. A measure to increase the
sustainability of batteries can be to ensure a sustainable supply chain in order to mitigate the
sustainable risks.
Based on this, a study investigating the impact of sustainable sourcing within the battery
industry is conducted, with Morrow Batteries as a study object. The study aims to investigate
how Morrow Batteries and their stakeholders incorporate sustainable sourcing to create
value. This is explored by investigating how Morrow Batteries ensures sustainable sourcing
within their operations and how stakeholders facilitate Morrow Batteries’ sustainable sourcing.
Furthermore, there is an investigation of how stakeholder and customer value for Morrow
Batteries is affected by sustainable sourcing.
To address the research topic, data were gathered through interviews with employees and
stakeholders of Morrow Batteries. This study finds that Morrow Batteries increases their sustainable
sourcing through three aspects: technology, production, and developing a responsible
supply chain. Additionally, Morrow Batteries acquires enhanced sustainability in their battery
production through stakeholders’ sustainable measures in their own operations. Furthermore,
the findings from this study illustrate that sustainable sourcing at Morrow Batteries have a
positive effect on stakeholder and customer value. All stakeholders interviewed expressed that
sustainable sourcing is valuable to their partnership with Morrow Batteries. On the other
side, sustainable sourcing might increase customer value as the batteries are manufactured
sustainably. | |
