dc.description.abstractAbstract Objective: High-intensity interval training (HIIT) has been regarded as an effective and time-efficient way of improving aerobic fitness in older adults (Marriott et al.,2021). Research on HIIT also show to be effective on physical function (PF) (Stern et al., 2023) However, few studies have looked at blood lactate levels (BLL) on submaximal intensities. As well as a lack of big-scale studies on HIIT and PF which includes several different aspects of the complex PF. Therefore, the aim of the study was to examine the effect of a six-month home-based HIIT intervention on BLL and PF in healthy older adults aged (67.3 5.5). Method: 233 older adults were randomly put into either a control group (CG) (n=111) or an exercise group (EG)(n=122). The lactate measurements (LM) were done by getting a blood sample from the participant’s finger during the active recovery periods (Accu-check, safe-t-pro plus Roche, Mannheim Germany) it was then analyzed using a lactate analyzer (EFF diagnostics, Biosen C-line). Results: The EG improved significantly within the group, also compared to the CG on the LMs and PF tests. The CG did not show an overall improvement within the group in LMs, and most of their PF test results were not significant, with some exceptions. Conclusion: The current study revealed that a six-month home-based HIIT intervention reduced BLL on submaximal intensities and improved PF in healthy older adults compared to a CG.
