This is a Master ́s Thesis that is a part of the Civil and Structural Engineering, Master's Programme. The Master ́s Thesis has the subject code BYG508.
With a changing climate and development that will continue, it requires safe and secure planning by all participants who have a connection to stormwater. Adequate stormwater management can help create a safer and better environment where damage will be reduced. This leads to the main research question which is:How to manage stormwater for a selected area in Grimstad municipality with a focus in reducing environmental damage?
The main method for this project was a case study of an undeveloped area which are established to be a business area. The case study has consisted of site analysis with inspection and map analyses, stormwater calculations and a feasibility study.
The case area has runoff to two different outlet points in both the before and after situations. The runoff from the area must be the same both before and after development. The floodways in and outside the area are considered safe for most of the buildings near the waterways. Flood warning zones show areas that may flood but are mainly undeveloped areas. By keeping the runoff from the area the same before and after development, this contributes to maintaining the streams' biological properties. The solutions contribute to both infiltration into the ground and drainage of the amounts of storm water. The solutions support sustainable development by ensuring measures that contribute to climate adaptation, economic security, and social value for the area.
