dc.description.abstractThe objective of this Master thesis is to study and explore how public health authorities can address information gaps for an effective response to pandemics, using insights from how Pakistan responded to COVID-19. This research work will analyze, characterize and compare the behavior of people living in rural areas, as well as addressing the gaps formed between the rural and urban population due to the lack of information for how to deal with COVID-19. This study is targeted to explore how Pakistan public health authorities respond to COVID19 and aims at gaining a better understanding and critically analysis the decisions made by public health authorities. Lack of addressing and decision-making strategies during the pandemic (COVID-19) is discussed as well as giving appropriate suggestions for better problem-solving techniques and future decision effective policies initiatives are given as strategies. This is a qualitative and ethnographic study with some aspects of a quantitative study, where free flowing and informal interviews, observations during live sessions and on the health advisory platforms from the Pakistan health ministry were conducted and data was collected to better understand this study. This study found that the health addressing initiative by the public health sector on COVID-19 in Pakistan to the public was not effective enough. To some extent addressing the health concerns to literate community was beneficial. However, lack of health promotion policies and strategies such as genuine interest in public health community in the scheming and execution of the health program has greatly affected the rural and uncivilized population and caused deaths.
