The purpose of this master’s thesis is to shed light on different ways teachers can facilitate the first reading and writing training. The study looks at different work methods and strategies that teachers can use to ensure that students’ needs are met inteaching. In order to obtain information about how teachers can facilitate education of reading and writing skills, observations and interviews were conducted at two separate schools. Through the observations and interviews it was made visible that training of the oral skills played an important role for the development of reading and writing skills, as these skills are based on spoken language. At the same time the observations show the importance of being conscious about the students’ levels, prerequisites and interests to be able to facilitate the students’ needs in the best possible way. By using different work methods and strategies through the conducting of the observations and interviews, we get insight into how teachers in the schools in question facilitate the great diversity of the class. This is to ensure care in the community and equal opportunities for learning and development.
