This is a practice-based master`s thesis, where my starting point has been my life and experiences as a little boy who wanted to dance ballet but felt a pressure to play and like football. These experiences became the source of inspiration to do artistic research. The definition of artistic research covers artistic processes that leads to a publicly available artistic product (Malterud, Lai, Nyrnes , & Thorsen , 2015, s. 10). Through my artistic research I have tried to answer this following question; What expectations and attitudes, in terms of gender rolesdo men face in conventional feminine and masculine expressions? Focused on classical ballet and football. The fact that this master`s thesis is practice-based means that the result is a performance, with a following 20 minutes oral presentation. I choose to call the performance TIL GUTTA –translated as TO THE GUYS. In this process, I have done detective work in myself, to rediscover thoughts and reflections I had as a child, that I have used in my work. In addition, I have conducted several in-depth interviews with different men who have or still has connections to conventional feminine or masculine expressions. My personal story, and these men’s stories is the basis for answering my question, as well as it gave me inspiration to create scenic material for the performance.
