This study is about playful teaching in mathematics in the second grade. The aim of the study is to judge whether a total of eight activities can be seen as playful, and if they contain aspects of mathematics. Another aim of this study is to look at how the pupil experiences these activities. The study is based on a socio-cultural perspective on learning. I have adopted a qualitative case study as my approach of the study, and my methods for data collection is observation and interview. The observation lasted to weeks and included a total of five days. I used field notes during this observation. I conducted two interviews with a total of four pupils. I used a video camera to make sure I got every verbal detail by the children. I analysed three of the eight activities I observed. The results of these activities showed multiple aspects of mathematics, and all three of them can be described as playful. The results also showed that most of the pupils seemed to enjoy the activities.
