dc.description.abstractBackground: Non-communicable chronicle diseases are a significant challenge as well as an important health policy priority for improving public health. Aims: The aim of this study was to illustrate the perceived impact of lifestyle change through a year of lifestyle course. The goal was to look at the factors that can lead to successful lifestyle change. Method: A qualitative study with eight participants, five women, at the age of 20- 53. The analysis was conducted with systematic text condensation. Results: The participants who had succeeded their lifestyle change described a security, a close circle of family and friends who participated in their lifestyle change. Participants who had succeeded had a higher education, and were more often in fulltime jobs. The results shows that close friends and family, personal characteristics and sense of coherence were important factors for successful lifestyle change. Conclusion: Empowerment, sense of coherence and a supportive and a participating circle of family and friends appear to be necessary factors for successful lifestyle change. Keywords: Empowerment.
