Sammendrag
The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of a tailored and costeffective telephone and (e)mail based physical activity intervention on blood pressure in a group of inactive adults aged 40-55 years. Furthermore it was of some interest to investigate the effect of aerob capasity and body composition on blood pressure. This master thesis consists of one article and a written assignment. The assignment is an elaboration of the theory and methods in which the article is based upon. The written assignment starts off with an introduction presenting the theme, definitions, the aim of the study and the study apporach. Thereafter, a supplementary theory chapter elaborating the themes blood pressure, hypertension, physical activity and physical inactivity is prestented, containing an additional overview of previous interventions. The methods chapter presents the study design, sample and measurment methods. Thereafter, a discussion on different methodological considerations will follow.
The article which is written in accordance with the guidelines of The Journal of The Norwegian Medical Association will thereby follow. A reference list and the appendix’s can be found at the end of this master thesis.
Due to the limitated word count of the written assignment, the results from the statistical analyses will only be presented in the article.
Keywords: blood pressure, physical activity, physical inactivity, body mass index, waist circumference, randomized controlled trials.
