Vi befinner oss i en natur- og klimakrise. Handlingene for å løse krisen går for sent, og FN mener det ikke lengre er realistisk å holde seg under 1,5 grader temperaturøkning. Denne oppgaven skal undersøke problemstillingen: Dersom klimakrisen og tap av arter truer estetiske opplevelser i naturen, går da noe betydningsfullt tapt? Ved å trekke inn Adorno fra den kontinentale filosofitradisjonen, Berleant fra den analytiske og økopsykologisk teori, vil oppgaven vise at grunnen til at vi har havnet i dagens situasjon er at vi har tatt avstand til resten av naturen, og dermed har skapt en avstand til oss selv ettersom vi er en del av naturen. For å bøte på dette må vi innse at vi kan, og bør, leve på en annen måte. Denne innsikten kan vi få med en kritisk holdning til det bestående, som kan vekkes i det estetiske møtet med natur og kunst. Konklusjonen er at det går noe betydningsfullt tapt dersom estetiske opplevelser i naturen blir redusert. Vi mister både innsikt i at vi er natur, og vi mister kontakt med oss selv – to viktige bestanddeler i å gjøre de endringer som kreves for at livsgrunnlaget ikke skal ødelegges.
ABSTRACT
We are in a nature and climate crisis. Actions to solve the crisis are progressing too slowly, and UN believes it is no longer realistic to stay under 1.5-degree temperature increase. This thesis will investigate the research question: If the climate crisis and the loss of species threaten aesthetic experiences in nature, will something significant be lost? By drawing on Adorno from the continental philosophical tradition, Berleant from the analytical tradition, as well as ecopsychological theories, the thesis will show that the reason why we have ended up in the current situation is that we have distanced ourselves from the rest of nature, thus creating a distance to ourselves as well, since we are inevitably a part of nature. To remedy this, we must realize that we can, and should, live in a different way. This thesis will argue that we can gain this insight through a critical questioning of the existing situation, something which can be awakened in an aesthetic encounter with nature and art. The conclusion is that something significant is lost if the possibility of having aesthetic experiences of nature is reduced. We lose both insight of the fact that we are nature, and we also lose contact with ourselves – two important components needed for making the changes required so that the basis for life is not destroyed. | |
