dc.description.abstract | This thesis explores the usage of Afrofuturist aesthetic in Marvel's Black Panther franchise. By analysing and exploring key extracts from Ta-Nehisi Coates' A Nation Under Our Feet and Evan Narcisse's Rise of The Black Panther, the paper offers insight into comics as a medium particularly suited for Afrofuturist narratives, and how they utilise word and image to convey their stories. What follows is a chapter surrounding Afrofuturism in the 2018 and 2022 movie adaptations, Black Panther and Wakanda Forever, and how they adapt the usage of Afrofuturist aesthetics, and how the visual elements interact with the story itself, compared to the comics. | |
