Bakgrunn: Sykepleiere skal være en del av barnepalliative team og barnesykepleierforbundet jobber for at alle barnepalliative team skal ha minst en barnesykepleier. Ansvar, funksjon og kompetansen til sykepleieren i teamet er ikke spesifisert i nasjonale retningslinjer.
Hensikt og problemstilling: Hensikten med dette forskningsprosjektet var å få mer kunnskap om hvordan sykepleieren selv opplever sitt ansvar og sin funksjon i et barnepalliativt team, og hvordan kompetansen nyttiggjøres i teamet. Problemstilling: «Hvordan opplever sykepleiere sitt ansvar, funksjon og kompetanse i et barnepalliativt team?».
Metode: Kvalitativt design med datainnsamling gjennom 8 semistrukturerte individualintervjuer. Vi benyttet Braun & Clark´s refleksive tematiske analyse som analysemetode.
Resultater: Analysen resulterte i 3 hovedtemaer og 7 subtemaer. Sykepleierne uttrykker et stort personlig engasjement, der jobben i barnepalliativt team betegnes som å gjøre livene til barna og familiene lettere. Sykepleieren opplever å jobbe på lag, der de ofte står familienes nærmest, koordinerer oppgavene rundt familien og trekker inn andre etter behov. Sykepleierne opplever en mangel på tid til å utøve den tjenesten de identifiserer at barna og familiene trenger. Arbeidet preges av en opplevelse av at andre ikke vet hva barnepalliasjon innebærer.
Konklusjon: Sykepleiere i barnepalliative team kan ikke konkretisere sitt ansvar og sin funksjon i teamet. Deres kompetanse brukes til å utøve helhetlig, familiesentrert sykepleie med mål om at barna og familiene skal få det best mulig. Det er behov for å tydeliggjøre oppgavene til de barnepalliative teamet og hvor mye tid som skal settes av for dette.

Abstract
Background: Nurses are supposed to be part of pediatric palliative care teams. The responsibilities, roles and competencies of nurses in the team are not specified in national guidelines.
Purpose and research question: The purpose of this study was to gain more knowledge about how nurses perceive their responsibilities and roles in a pediatric palliative care team, and how their competencies are utilized within the team. Research question: "How do nurses perceive their responsibilities, roles and competencies in a pediatric palliative care team?"
Method: Qualitative design with data collection through 8 semi-structured individual interviews. We utilized Braun & Clark's reflexive thematic analysis as the analysis method.
Results: The analysis resulted in 3 main themes and 7 sub-themes. Nurses express a significant personal commitment, describing their work in the pediatric palliative care team as making the lives of the children and families easier. Nurses experience working as a team, often being closest to the families, coordinating tasks around the family, and involving others as needed. Nurses experience a lack of time to provide the services they identify as necessary.
Conclusion: Nurses in pediatric palliative care teams cannot specify their responsibilities and roles. Their competencies are used to provide holistic, family-centered nursing care with the aim of ensuring the best possible outcomes for the children and families. There is a need to clarify the tasks of pediatric palliative care teams and allocated time to the tasks.
