Asser, E. A. (2023). Alt på stell. En studie i hvordan bruk av kunstig intelligens kan hemme eller fremme Sparebanken Sør sine verdier [Doctoral dissertation]. University of Agder.Sammendrag
This study investigates the impact of AI-technology on the immaterial values of Sparebanken Sør, a Norwegian financial institution that prides itself on its long historical tradition, its customer-oriented approach, and ethical business practices. The research methodology includes a philosophical investigation of AI as a phenomenon underpinned by Martin Heidegger’s philosophy of technology from his essay The Question Concerning Technology (Heidegger 2013), its applications, and its potential effects on values. The study especially takes use of Heidegger’s term “Gestell” as a tool to explain in what way values are being challenged by technology in general, and by AI-technology especially.
To identify the immaterial values in Sparebanken Sør, an empirical study was conducted.
The findings of the study indicate that AI-technology has both positive and negative impacts on the immaterial values of Sparebanken Sør, and that these impacts vary depending on the specific application of AI-technology and the organizational context.
Overall, this study highlights the need for the bank to carefully consider the potential impacts of AI-technology on their immaterial values and to develop strategies to mitigate any negative effects. By doing so, Sparebanken Sør can ensure that their use of AI-technology aligns with their values and their customer-oriented approach, and that they maintain the trust of their stakeholders.
