Abstract Purpose: This study was made to take a closer look at changes in strength and muscle mass, and the effects they would have after a strength training intervention. Methods: This is a case study that investigated the individual changes in performance for elite male soccer players. 9 athletes (age 25.7 ± 3, height 184.2 ± 3.2, weight 78.7 ± 2.6) playing on the next highest level in Norway completed a strength training intervention over 10 weeks. They went through pre- and post testing of body composition, 30-meter sprint measuring every 5-meter, countermovement jump (CMJ) and keiser leg press (Fmax). Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) and inertial movement unit (IMU) data was collected throughout the period. Variables used from Catapult was PlayerLoad/min, acceleration/min, deacceleration/min and change of direction/min. All players change in performance was determined with coefficient of variation (CV%). Results: Six players improved their strength, half of these increased the amount of acceleration/min and deacceleration/min. Four players increased in lean mass legs, but only one of these improved Fmax. One player reduced fat free mass and lean mass legs, while still improving their Fmax. Conclusion: It looks like there is a bigger correlation between increase in strength and improvement on the field, as several of the players that enhanced their Fmax also increased the number of movements on the field. An increase in lean mass legs seemed to have less impact on achievement for this group of players. Keywords: Match data, body composition, lean mass, accelerations, change of direction
