The global food is in trouble and farmers all over the world are experiencing challenges in food production due to climate change. Climate change is making the possibility to produce food unpredictable and created a vulnerable future for farmers all over the world. Our food is affected by extreme weather events, such as drought, intensifies precipitation and flood. Norwegian farmers are also experiencing climate change just as the rest of the world. The research understands the Norwegian agriculture sector as a socio-ecological system that are constantly changing due to climate change. It further aims to examine how resilient the farmers believe the Norwegian food security is. This thesis investigate how climate change affects the food security of Norway through the lens of farmers. Based on the review of the literature this thesis is a qualitative research where there is conducted 16 interviews with farmers from Agder and Vestfold & Telemark the thesis seek to make sense of farmers perception on food security. The analysis shows that farmers are divided towards the view of the impact climate change has towards the Norwegian food security, but from a long-term perspective farmers seems to be more threatened of climate change. The main objectives of the food security threat point to increased precipitation such as flood and wetter fields causing difficult food production, but also instability of global food markets has increased the vulnerability for Norwegian food security. Farmers point to different adaptive measures such as grain storage, crop rotation and better technologies as tool to improve food production which in turn increased national food security. This thesis concludes that Norwegian food security from farmers point of view is not at too much of a risk today, but future scenario can cause problems towards national food security. By identifying the risk farmers face due to climate change as early as possible, the food security can become more resilient in the future. However, there is limitation towards the research as it has a small sample size, and we cannot generalize. Further research is needed to find the best possible solutions for each problem, but this thesis tries to understand how farmers perceive the challenges towards climate change impact on national food security.
