Abstract

BackgroundWithin mental health work, several health professionals experience that being exposed to violence is a part of the daily life.Purpose and Research questionThe purpose of this project is to illuminate violence against health personnel in a way that captures the individual experiences. By having more knowledge, you can better follow up the employee in the aftermath of violence. The research question of the assignment reads as follows:“How do health professionals in the field of mental health-and drug addicts experience being exposed to violence in connection with their work? What do they feel is important in a job with risk of violence?”MethodQualitative research interview is chosen as a method to answer the research question. The selection consists of 5 people with health education from 5 different workplaces who have been exposed to violence at work. They all meet mental health patients and drug addicts as part of their job. The data is analysed using the systematic text condensation. ResultsThe findings show that being exposed to violence where the intention is to harm is perceived as the most difficult. After a violent incident, a good follow-up is important. A good follow-up is about the fact that something is being done. Competence, relationship with the patient and enough staff at work are described as important factorsfor feeling safe. Interest in the patient group is described as significant. Colleagues are highlighted as important in several ways, it is about trust, loyalty and security.
