Sammendrag
Background: 50-90 % of all patients whom is hospitalized in an ICU will suffer from
intensive care delirium. The decision-making-tool CAM-ICU is used and activated in
many of the intensive-care units in Norwegian hospitals. Some research show that
the tool isn’t used correctly – therefor I wanted to find out what experience my fellow
ICU-nurses had with the tool.
Aim and objective: The aim of this study is to gain a broad understanding into the
ICU-nurses experience, using CAM-ICU.
Method: Seven qualitative semi-structured interviews were conducted by a total of
eight ICU-nurses using CAM-ICU to identify and prevent delirium. The analysis was
performed with inspiration from Malteruds systemic text condensation.
Conclusion: If the ICU-nurses get a good and systematic training in using CAM-ICU,
they will be in a better condition to score the patients correctly. With good training
and education they will collaborate better with the patient and the patients’ relatives.
It’s the same with the other healthcare providers in the hospital, good training results
in better quality.
