The aim of this study was to determine freeskiers mental toughness, sensation seeking and risk taking behavior and if mental toughness or sensation seeking can predict a risk taking behavior. 37 athletes from The Norway Freeride Cup conducted the questionnaire. A correlation and regression analysis was used to examine the theses. The results showed that freeskiers are mentally tough, sensation seekers and risk takers. Sensation seeking proves to be a predictor for a risk taking behavior. Especially the scale “Boredom Susceptibility” (SS-BS) showed a high correlation to risk taking behavior. Mental toughness could not predict a risk taking behavior. Confidence was the only mental toughness subscale to show a correlation to risk taking behavior. The results are discussed with regard to theory and previous research findings. In conclusion its encouraged to more research on freeskiers.
