dc.description.abstract | In this thesis I have examined the use of dialect in nine people of three different generations from Grimstad city centre. I selected six linguistic variables that I wanted to examine more closely; three phonological variables (r-sound, lenis plosivesand retroflex) and three morphological variables (personal pronoun 1st person singular, verb ending in present tense and adverbs of negation). The basis for this study is my observation of variations in the use of these traits, especially between different generations. Consequently, I have correlated the six linguistic variables with the social variable generation. In order to complete the study in the best of its ability, I chose the qualitative interview as my method. Based on the results of the interviews, I also hoped to be able to say something about the development of the dialect, as well as potential causes for possible change processes. | en_US |
