Knutsen, K. S. (2020) Den polariserende klimaheltinnen : En kritisk diskursanalyse av fremstillinger av Greta Thunberg i meningsytringer i norske papiraviser (Master's thesis). University of Agder, Kristiansand.Sammendrag
September 23, 2019, 16-year-old climate activist Greta Thunberg stood on the pulpit in the UN Climate Panel. With commitment, she addressed the issue of climate science, asking the following questions to world leaders: "How dare you?". The response to the speech and her appearance did not wait, either in social media, online newspapers or in traditional paper newspapers. The aim of this master's thesis is to look at how Greta Thunberg and her speech in the UN Climate Panel were responded to in Norwegian opinion journalism and newspaper debate in major Norwegian paper newspapers. The thesis examines various representations of Greta Thunberg and how she was mentioned in the opinion sections in the nine largest Norwegian paper newspapers in the period one week before and one week after her speech in the UN Climate Panel, through a discourse analytic approach. It is based on an interdisciplinary theoretical framework by combining perspectives on critical discourse analysis with media scientific perspectives on the genre of commentary and opinion journalism and the role of this genre in society. Through a two-part analysis, a quantitative overview of the material is first given, before the newspaper texts are discussed through the identification and analysis of various discourses about Greta Thunberg.
