The background for the project:The background for the choice of the theme is related to ABUP's project, which states that all foster families with foster children from 0-6 years of age should be offered examination and guidance. The idea is to strengthen interactions in the family and to prevent accidental removal from home.Aim and research question:The purpose of the study has been to examine what kind of experiences foster parents are left with after completing the guidance given by ABUP. There is a need for more knowledge about what kind of guidance and support foster parents need, to take best care for their care task and thus prevent accidental removal from home.Research refers to some elements (for example: the feeling of being included in decisions, enough help from the specialist health service and guidance) that have been important for foster parents for them to stand in their care task. The paper's academic foundation lies in attachment theory, trauma conscious care, Circle of security and Bateson ́s communication theory. The research question is the following: What experiences do foster parentshave with guidance from ABUP?Method: design, selection and analysis:This study has a qualitative design and an interpretive phenomenological approach. There have been conducted in-depth-interviews with six foster parents who all have completed the guidance. The findings have been analyzed using Malterud's modified edition of Giorgi'sanalysis, systematic text condensation (STC).Results:Three central categories were identified as: "New and increased knowledge", "Safe with ABUP and their competence" and "Inadequate information and user involvement".Conclusion:The study shows that guidance given by ABUP has an important function to improve the foster parents ́ understanding of the foster children and in this way secure them in their situation.nb_NO
