Unraveling the Crowdfunding Market: A Comparative Analysis of Crowdfunding Awareness and Intentions in China and Hungary

This research explores crowdfunding awareness and intentions in different cultural contextsthrough China and Hungary. Given the disparity of the development state of crowdfunding inthe two countries with China being highly developed and Hungary taking the initial steps,understanding the challenges in different cultural contexts is crucial for the development ofcrowdfunding. To find the key components affecting crowdfunding behavior intents, thetheory of planned behavior was applied, specifically attitude, subjective norms, self-efficacyand perceived behavioral control. The study was extended with further relevant elementssuch as, social trust, economic education, awareness, and crowdfunding interest. An onlinesurvey was conducted, resulting in 128 Chinese and 313 Hungarian responses. SEM- lavaan Rprogramming was used for data analysis. In both countries, the results showed that interesthad a positive influence on crowdfunding intentions. Simultaneously, we identified anassociation of economic education towards awareness and further awareness towardscrowdfunding interest. These connections explain the process of gaining crowdfundingawareness and financial intentions. Additionally, as further association, attitude had a positiveinfluence on crowdfunding intentions. Furthermore, awareness was found to positivelyaffect attitude, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control. The study providesvaluable insights for both research and practical implications with context comparison in thecrowdfunding field.
