Abstract
The purpose of this thesis is to describe the leadership style(s) that exist in firms during ahyper-growth period. As the literature on the subject is lacking, we conduct an exploratoryinvestigation. The literature shows that there are significant challenges in procuring thetime of hyper-growth leaders, therefore, a large amount of participants were not pre req-uisite. Furthermore, earlier research gave indication that it was necessary to expand theresearch from hyper-growth in a vacuum to a broader time-line. In general, the research ofhyper-growth relate to small or medium sized firms with the founder as the leader. Hence,we seek to find the traits of the leaders before the firms birth as well as the start-ups cli-mate that as they may provide factors relevant to the leadership style(s) in hyper-growth.To explore without much hindrance, we conduct semi-structured interviews followed by areflexive thematic analysis (RTA).Our findings show that transformational leadership is the best description of leadershipstyle in hyper-growth. However, traits of entrepreneurial and visionary leadership seem tooccur. Furthermore, there seem to be an interplay of factors that are necessary to grasp whythe leadership style can exist.
