NorwayABSTRACTPreparing student teachers for a profession that continuously changes inrelation to digitalisation is a global challenge. By analysing survey dataabout how teacher educators (N= 389) report that they prepare theirstudents for this challenge, wefind that the focus is still on learning touse digital technologies for instrumental purposes, while relating tomore fundamental epistemic challenges emerging in digital learningenvironments receives less attention. We address risks associated withthisfinding, and how a more concurrent focus on the instrumental andepistemic dimensions of professional digital competence (PDC) can besupported in teacher education.
