SummaryThe following is a study of the process of producing a short film shot in 360 degrees. The ideaof the project was that it would be familiar and yet completely foreign. Coming from abackground in filmmaking in the traditional sense, I became curious about the idea of shootingin 360-degrees as opposed to shooting straight on with conventional cameras. I approached thischallenge by conceptualizing a plot that took advantage of visualizing 3D space. Shooting in360-degrees meant that I always had to be aware of every angle. I set the story of my film insideof a boathouse and placed the actors around a table. I was inspired by Hugo Keijzer’s 360-degree short film “The Invisible Man” in terms of the similar mise-en-scène and characterplacements. My story is very character driven, and the viewer can never watch all of actors atthe same time; in this way I could add small but significant details/actions that drive the storyforward. Thus, the viewer has the chance to get a greater reward from noticing more detailseach time they rewatch the film.
