The aim of this thesis is to examine what a teacher and a group of students in middle school look for in a good educational video. The research questions are: 1. “What does a group of students at middle school look for in a good educational video in mathematics?” 2. “What does a teacher at middle school look for in a good educational video in mathematics?”. The theoretical framework I have used in this thesis is mainly Richard Mayer's theory of multimedia learning, and his principles for how to design a multimedia instruction. The survey is a case study and has a mixed research method, where I have collected data through a questionnaire from a class, and a semi-structured interview with a teacher, and a focus group-interview with a group of students. I have done an inductive analysis to sort the data systematically by recurring themes. Then I did a deductive analysis where results and findings are linked to Mayer's principles for how to make a good multimedia instruction. The findings show that both what the teacher and the students look for in a good educational video can be linked to several of Mayer's principles.
