Sammendrag
The purpose of this qualitative investigation was to identify how inmates manage their
sexuality during the atonement. I have also looked at how the possibilities of communication,
with sexuality as content, between inmates and staff. Finally, we talked about how the
informants think a prison stay among male fellow inmates will affect their sexuality and
possibly how their sexuality will be after release. As a theoretical background for the task I
looked at WHO’s sexual human rights, as well as the bio-psycho-social model. Sexuality
unfolds in the relationship between people. Besides life events and changing social status, as
imprisonment, affect sexuality. This in conjunction with being in a total institution and inmate
loss list. The project was conducted by interviewing five male inmates in a prison. These have
served longer sentences; some even several times in different prisons. This gave the opportunity to also talk about residence and management of several prisons with different
levels of security. The survey renders qualitative information as to the management of
sexuality and confirmes that what you see as important sexuality coincides largely with the
investigations of what the general population considers as motivation for sexuality. Some
informants state that prison stays provide some temporary changes in sexuality and thoughts
surrounding this. Meanwhile the task also highlight thoughts on some myths that may be
associated with inmates and sexuality.
