Power to the people : how sustainable energy services and development can be facilitated through grass root development- a case study from the Bondo district in Kenya
Abstract
Serious international actors like the IPCC, the
UNFCCC and the WEO, highlight the need to
implement sustainable energy resources as fossil
fuels has contributed to increase the global CO2
emission, which again has contributed to climate
change. In many parts of the developing world
there is currently no access to energy services.
WEO predicts that developing countries will be
responsible for much of the expected increase in
CO2 emissions until 2015. As a result of this
much research has been focusing on the potential
sustainable energy services can bring to
developing countries. However, I find that less
research has been conducted on how this change
that sustainable energy resources will bring, will
be met in the local community. This thesis is
therefore directed at how the current
environment for the implementation of
sustainable energy services is in a traditional
rural village in Kenya.
